How Delivery of Large Planters Works
Planters and raised beds are bulky goods. They do not travel on a normal parcel round, and the delivery works differently from most things you order online. This page sets out exactly what happens so there are no surprises on the day.
The short version
- One delivery service, 4.99 pounds, free on orders of 50 pounds and over.
- Stock items arrive in three to five business days. Made-to-order pieces show their own lead time on the product page.
- United Kingdom addresses only.
- Bulky items travel on a pallet or a two-person service.
- The carrier calls or texts to book a slot before they come.
- Delivery is to the kerbside or the nearest safe hard-standing point.
- Everything arrives fully assembled and already lined.
What kerbside delivery actually means
The driver brings the item to the edge of the public highway or the nearest point a vehicle can safely reach. They will not carry it through a house, along a garden path, up steps or round the back. That is a limitation of the service rather than an unwillingness to help, and it is standard across the pallet network.
In practice this means you should expect the planter to be left on your drive or by your front gate. Plan for someone to be there who can move it, or be ready to leave it in place until you can.
Please check your access before you order
Every planter we make is supplied assembled, which is good news for you and slightly awkward for the delivery. It means the largest external dimension has to physically pass through whatever gap you have.
| Planter | Clear width you need | Weight |
|---|---|---|
| Round Barrel Planter 40cm | 40 cm | 11 kg |
| Planter with Trellis 45cm | 45 cm wide, 130 cm tall | 16 kg |
| Square Planter 50cm | 50 cm | 13 kg |
| Hexagonal Planter 60cm | 60 cm | 11 kg |
| Octagonal Planter 80cm | 80 cm | 22 kg |
| Herb Planter Table 80cm | 80 cm wide, 80 cm tall | 24 kg |
| Rectangular Trough 100cm | 100 cm | 18 kg |
| Raised Garden Bed 120 x 60cm | 120 cm | 28 kg |
Allow a little extra on top of these figures for packaging. If you have a narrow side return, a tight gate or an awkward turn at the top of some steps, measure it now rather than on the day.
Will I need help unloading
Probably, for the larger sizes. Nothing we make is beyond two people, but the 120 x 60 cm raised bed at 28 kg and the herb planter table at 24 kg are both genuinely two-person lifts once you factor in the shape as well as the weight. The smaller round and hexagonal planters at 11 kg can be managed alone.
Vehicle access
Pallet vehicles are large. If your road is narrow, unadopted, gated, weight-restricted or has low branches, tell us when you order and we will pass it to the carrier. A failed delivery caused by access that was not as described may be rechargeable, and that is a conversation nobody enjoys.
Booking a slot
The carrier will contact you to arrange a delivery day. You do not need to chase us for this. If the day they offer does not work, tell them, not us, because they hold the schedule.
If something arrives damaged
Check the item before you sign if you can, and take a photograph of any damage to the packaging or the goods. Email support@simplywooduk.com with the photographs and your order number and we will sort it out. Return postage is on us if anything arrives damaged, faulty or not as described.
If you change your mind
You have 14 days from delivery to tell us, and a further 14 days to send the goods back. Items should be unused and re-saleable, and return postage for a change of mind is paid by you. Made-to-measure pieces are exempt unless they are faulty. Full conditions are in our returns and refund policy.
The complete terms are on our delivery information page. If you are not sure whether we can reach you, call us free on 0800 118 5141 before you order.
