Simply Wood Wooden Raised Garden Bed 120 x 60cm - Pressure-Treated Solid Timber Vegetable Bed, Natural

A proper growing bed rather than a decorative box, this raised bed gives roots 30 cm of clear depth over open ground. Every board is solid pressure-treated softwood, cut and assembled in our Wheldrake workshop near York.

The frame measures 120 cm by 60 cm and stands 30 cm tall, holding around 200 litres of compost. Corner posts are morticed and screwed with stainless fixings, and a mid-span batten on each long side stops the boards bowing under the weight of wet soil.

A permeable liner is fitted along the inside faces to protect the timber while still letting roots reach the soil below. The base is left open so worms and drainage move freely between the bed and the ground.

Supplied fully assembled and ready to fill. It suits potatoes, brassicas, salad crops, strawberries and cut flowers. Plants and compost are not included.

Delivery and access

This raised bed is supplied fully assembled at 120 x 60 cm and weighs 28 kg, so it is a two-person lift and needs at least 120 cm of clear access through gates and passageways. Planters and raised beds are bulky goods, so they travel on a pallet or a two-person service rather than a standard parcel round. The carrier will contact you to arrange a slot. Delivery is made to the kerbside or the nearest safe hard-standing point, not into the garden or through the house, so please make sure there is clear vehicle access and that someone is available to help move the item the last few metres. Care

Brush out fallen leaves and debris each autumn, and lift the planter clear of standing water over winter where you can. Re-coat with an exterior wood oil or stain every two to three years if you would rather keep a darker, freshly finished tone; left alone, the natural timber weathers to a soft silver-grey over a season or two. Do not seal the open base, as free drainage is what keeps the timber sound. There is fuller guidance on our timber care page.

If something is wrong with it

Please check the planter over as soon as it arrives. If it is damaged, faulty or not what you ordered, email support@simplywooduk.com or call 0800 118 5141 free with your order number and a photograph, and we will put it right at our own cost by repair, replacement or refund. You will never be asked to pay carriage on an item that is not as it should be. Within 30 days of delivery you have the short-term right to reject faulty goods for a full refund, and up to six months you can ask for a repair or replacement. Variation in grain, colour and knot pattern, and small surface cracks, resin bleed or greying as the wood seasons, are normal characteristics of natural timber rather than faults.
